Bernal stürmt an der Gibraltar Road ins Gelbe Trikot

(rsn) - Wer sich vor dem Start der 2. Etappe der 13. Kalifornien-Rundfahrt im Fahrerlager umhörte, der bekam von allen Seiten nur einen Namen als Favoriten auf den Tagessieg genannt: Egan Bernal. Der 21-jährige Shooting-Star vom Team Sky wurde seiner Favoritenrolle dann auch gerecht und triumphierte nach 157 Kilometern von Ventura nach Santa Barbara County an der 12,2 Kilometer langen und acht Prozent steilen Gibraltar Road nach einer Attacke auf den letzten zwei Kilometern. Mit 21 Sekunden Rückstand belegte Rafal Majka (Bora-hansgrohe) den zweiten Rang vor Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott/+0:25).
